This pair of Baule Ikat Pillows features handmade Baule textiles from the Cote d’Ivoire. Baule cloth is most recognized for its indigo blue color and ikat patterning. To create an ikat pattern, artisans dye individual threads using a traditional tie-dying technique before weaving long and narrow bands of cotton fabric on a standing pedal loom. These strips of cloth are sewn together to form larger panels that when complete are often worn as a wrap skirt as well as used in cultural ceremonies such as the reception of visitors. A vibrant pop of color in the form of hand-embroidered neon threads offer a unique and colorful finishing touch.
Each panel of a Baule ikat textile is unique, and has a specific history to tell about cultural heritage and the artisan handmade process. Our Vintage Baule Ikat Pillows are a dynamic and luxurious addition to your home, steeped in tradition and craftsmanship.
These pillows are 14” x 20” and each one come stuffed with a removable down/feather insert enclosed by a brass zipper. The back side of the pillow features 100% Belgian linen sourced from a sustainable mill and our signature Meridian tag.
Our Baule Ikat Pillows contain an authentic and high quality piece of a textile from the Cote d’Ivoire. Due to its entirely handmade creation process, no two pillows are exactly the same. Minor imperfections may be visible that speak to the handmade process and tell the story of its creator.
All of our textiles are handcrafted using the finest natural materials. To prevent loosening the shape or weave of the vintage cloth, we recommend dry cleaning our pillow covers.
