This colorful one-of-a-kind cactus silk pillow was handwoven by the nomadic Berber tribe of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The pillow’s saturated colors and embroidered symbols reflect Berber tattoos indicative of the family who made it and the mountainous region where it was created.
Cactus silk is a textile comprised of an all-natural vegetable silk made from the agave plant (a variety of the cactus also known as sabra) found in the Saharan Desert. The process for creating the silk and weaving cactus textiles has remained the same over several centuries. Leaves from the sabra plant are crushed and soaked in water over several days to loosen their fibers, then washed and spun to make silk threads.
All cactus silk is dyed using natural vegetable dyes which allow for highly pigmented and colorful pastel and earthy hues. The weaving process is done entirely by hand on looms. Since the silk is lightweight, supple and sturdy, it is mostly used to create small scale carpets, poufs and pillow covers.
We love that each individual cactus silk has a story to tell about its origins and heritage. Our Cactus Silk pillows are a chic global accent that compliments any space.
This pillow is approximately 18” x 18” and comes stuffed with a removable down/feather insert enclosed by a zipper.
Our cactus silk pillows are authentic and high quality representatives of Berber craft sourced in the Moroccan souk. Due to their entirely handmade creation process, minor imperfections and color variations may be visible that speak to the handmade process and tell the story of its creator. No two pillows are exactly the same.
All of our textiles are handcrafted using the finest natural materials. We recommend a light vacuum or warm iron for general upkeep. Please avoid direct or prolonged sunlight exposure. Blot any liquid spills immediately as they may stain cactus silk textiles. Professional dry cleaning recommended.

Our Highlands Pillow features a one-of-a-kind textile from Chiapas, Mexico. Each textile has been handmade by a local women’s cooperative who have been weaving for multiple generations.
Our weaving partners have a reputation of having one of the finest and oldest weaving traditions in all of Mexico. The textiles and styles of dress from this remote village show a refined texture and detailed, knotted patterns made of handspun cotton. Each design draws upon the weavers’ mythologies and their perceptions of the natural world. Designs are passed down from mother to daughter orally, with no written patterns on record.
This cooperative of weavers are masters at weaving on a backstrap loom, which gets its name from the way the loom is attached to the weaver’s body. At one end, the artisan ties the bottom of the loom around her lower back using a wide leather belt. The weaver attaches the other end to a fixed and sturdy object such as a tree. Backstrap looms are lightweight and portable, making for easy transport and flexibility to weave whenever and wherever the artisan pleases.
Our Highlands Pillow collection has a special story to tell about cultural heritage, textile artistry and the artisan handmade process. Each piece has been created in a Fair Trade environment, and provides direct income to our artisan partners in Southern Mexico.
This pillow is 10” x 16” and comes stuffed with a removable down/feather insert enclosed by a brass zipper. The back side of our pillow features 100% Belgian linen sourced from a sustainable mill and our signature Meridian tag.
Our Highlands Pillow contains an authentic and high quality handmade textile sourced directly from its maker. No two pillows are exactly the same. Minor imperfections may be visible that speak to the handmade process and tell the story of its creator, adding to the character and patina of each piece.
