Our Blue and White Porcelain Vase is handmade by a third-generation artisan family from the “Porcelain Capital” of China, where pottery has been produced for 1,700 years. Each step of the production process is done by hand, from sourcing and preparing the clay, to painting, and finally glazing each piece. This vase has been painted in the antique style of traditional Chinese porcelain and features images of fish.
In Chinese culture, Fish symbols are frequently used to represent good luck. Pieces adorned with this symbol (which some say are a koi fish) are often displayed in homes to bring the residents good fortune and a long life.
To create each vase, artisans mix the clay by hand and foot. The creator stomps and molds the clay on a large mound until it is tender and ready. The clay is then shaped into the vase’s desired size. It is left to naturally air dry, which takes several weeks depending on the weather. After the vase has dried, our master artisans paint the desired outline with cobalt, then fill the pattern with natural colors. The vase is then fired in a high temperature kiln. The result is the finest quality porcelain that is completely handmade.
This Blue and White Porcelain Vase looks beautiful full of flowers or greenery, but also is striking on its own. The classic style compliments many interiors, from contemporary to traditional. Every purchase directly supports our artisan partners in China.
