Our Vintage Roti Dabba (Chapati Board) has been handcrafted by artisans in Northern India. Made of wood, its original and traditional use was to present and hold round Indian bread, such as Roti, Chapati, Paratha or Poori, on the table.
The word dabba is Hindi for case or box, and modern day families use a metal version with a lid to hold bread on the table. The traditional wooden version of this bread plate would be reserved for special occasions or for when guests are visiting a family’s home.
Each Roti Dabba has been finished in a natural wood. Their designs and patterns are unique to each plate, and styles will differ from piece to piece, giving these vintage finds a unique character.
Style yours by the sink for a handsome display of soap and lotion, hold a candle on a side table, or catch jewelry at your bedside onto these special plates beaming with history.
The tray is approximately 10.75" L x 1.75" H. Made of wood. Not intended for use with food.
Each Vintage Roti Dabba Pedestal (Chapati Board) has been individually crafted by hand and no two are exactly alike. Due to the age of each piece, there may be small marks, cracks, scratches and some variation in color that are consistent with the plate’s age and original use. These markings add to the item’s patina, and tell a story of its unique history and significance. Please Contact Us if you have any specific needs or questions.
